We are all nervous the first day!

Use this lesson to ease your students minds about the first day of school! This is a great way to open up discussions about our feelings!

We are all nervous on the first day!

Grades: K-2
Lesson: 1 Day
Objective: 1) Discuss emotions and feelings about the first day of school.
Materials:
First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg

Directions:
1)        Introduce the Title and the Author and Illustrator. What does the word jitters mean? It means to be nervous or scared. I wonder what this person is nervous or scared about? (The first day of school). Have every student share one word about how they are feeling about their first day of school.
2)       Read the story out loud.
3)       After the story, tell them that even teachers get scared, nervous, and/or anxious about the first day of school.

** This activity helps set a classroom environment that it is ok to talk about how you are feeling.
